Samsung has included a very unique feature in its latest HDTV DLP models, that is the ablity to display the video content in 3-D with an optional set of special LCD shutter glasses and pc software. The tvs refresh rate operates at 120 Hz. The glasses display a discrete image in front of the right eye at 60 Hz and a discrete image in front of the left eye at 60 Hz. These images when synchronized with the tv screen image, running at 120 Hz, creates a 3-D effect. This is 3-D feature is available in all of Samsung’s HDTV DLP sets.

Samsung’s 87 and 89 Series DLPs are the premier sets and range in size from 50-inches to 61-inches and have a lot of other features in addition to the 3-D display technology. The 87 series has a 1080 progressive screen, a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, LED backlighting, and 3 HDMI 1.3 inputs. The 87 series sets are priced as follows: the 50-inch is $2,299, the 56-inch is $2,599 and the 61-inch is $2,999.

The 89 series has all of the mentioned features and adds to it picture-in-picture, and bluetooth. The 89 series sets are priced as follows: the 50-inch is $2,499, the 56-inch is $2,799 and the 61-inch is $3,199. The 3-D kit which includes the 2 pairs of glasses and the software is additional $150. I’m really interested in seeing how the 3-D performance is in real life. Samsung’s 87 and 89 series DLP televisions are available now.
