Samsung has announced that it has created a 30-inch LCD which incorporates the DisplayPort interface. The display has a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels and contrast ratio of 1000:1. This announcement makes Samsung the first company to produce a such an LCD. The DisplayPort interface transmits data at a speed of 10.8 Gigabits per second. This technology will be used to replace standard DVI and LVDS connections and will eventually replace VGA connections as well.

The transmission speed of DisplayPort interface is more than twice that of standard connections . This allows for one DisplayPort connection to replace two DVI connections.
This LCD also incorporates a new a new four-lane 2.7Gbps/lane interface chip. This chip is able to process 10-bits graphics data or up to 1.07 billion colors. The 30-inch LCD with the DisplayPort interface will go into production in the second quarter of 2008.
