Sony has created a very unique type of fuel cell which it calls the “Bio Battery”. What makes this fuel cell special is its ability to convert glucose into energy that can be used to power small electronic devices.
The Bio Battery, which looks like four white cubes attached together, contains enzymes which break down the glucose and convert it in to 50 mW of power.
In the video demonstration a grape juice extract is injected into one of the cubes in the fuel cell. The Bio Battery is then able to power a Sony Network walkman and a pair small speakers.
