The group behind the USB standard says that devices with connectors designed to the new USB 3.0 standard may come to the market in 2008. The USB 3.0 standard allows for the transmission of data at speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0’s maximum speed of 480 Mbit/s. This means that USB 3.0 may transfer data at speeds of up to 4.8 Gbps. And also of note, the new USB 3.0 standard will be backwards compatible with the older USB standards. So basically all your old stuff should will work.
