In Japan a textile company called Kurabo has created a fiber that kills several influenza strains including the H1N1 virus.
The fiber, which was developed in cooperation with researchers at the Hiroshima University, has been used in a disinfectant which fights viruses but safe for humans.
The fiber can also be used in different types of items such as clothing, carpets, curtains, and filters. And it retains its ability to combat viruses for up to 50 washes.
Sales of the fiber will begin in November 2009.
