I’m surprised that BP has still not been able to stop the oil leak that is causing havoc to the gulf of Mexico. You would think that with all its profits and years in drilling it would have already in place procedures to solve problems like underwater oil leaks.

But since they don’t have any solutions they need to think about the most effective ways of removing the oil that is being released into the environment. That is where this unique cloth comes into the picture.

The cloth is coated with a chemical polymer that attracts water and repels oil. This allows it to act as a filter separating the two liquids. The cloth was developed by the Di Gao, assistant professor  of the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. If created to a scale to treat thousands of gallons of contaminated water it may prove very effective in combating the effects of the oil leak.
