In order to study how butterflies fly, researchers Hiroto Tanaka and Isao Shimoyama created a robot butterfly.
Butterflies are unique in comparison to birds because they don’t have feathers (which creates lift on a bird’s wings) and a butterfly’s fore and hind wings overlap during flight.
